If Therapy Is a Cultural Intervention, Who Are You in the Culture?
Therapy Isn’t Neutral—And Neither Are We
There’s a phrase that floats around in our circles: “Therapy is a cultural intervention.”
But if that’s true, then it raises a deeper question:
If we’re intervening in culture… who are we in that culture?
At MHC, we’ve been sitting with this question—not as a branding exercise, but as a reflection of integrity. Because most of us were trained to be neutral. Objective. Outside of systems.
But neutrality can be a form of participation.
And healing doesn’t happen outside of culture. It happens through it.
🧭 That’s why our leadership development programs invite facilitators to explore their personal and cultural story. That’s why Bruce, our leadership and culture expert, works with leaders to examine not just what they do, but how they relate to power, privilege, culture, and change.
And it’s why we offer the Keeping The Love You Find Facilitator Training—led by Ateeka—for those who want to support individuals (and their relationships) through a deeper cultural and somatic lens.
We believe that the identity of the healer is inseparable from the work.
And that’s not a liability.
That’s the gift.
💭 Consider:
Where do you see systems of power, privilege, or cultural expectation shaping your relationships, your workplace, or your home?
What patterns do you notice in yourself or your surroundings that mirror these systems—whether you inherited them, were shaped by them, or are still learning to name them?
If you're navigating these same questions—or ready to hold space for others as they do—let’s keep the conversation going.
In shared practice and reflection,
